DONALD Trump won a last gasp boost today as Georgia confirmed it would hold a recount of election votes.
With the difference between votes cast for Trump and Biden less than 0.5%, the Trump campaign were entitled to demand a recount
Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling now says the final result may not be known until the end of the month, although traditionally recounts usually only report a difference of a few hundred votes in either direction, while the current difference is 1,586.
The news came as the presidency appeared to be slipping away from Trump earlier in the day after he dramatically fell behind Biden in the key state of Pennsylvania.
Biden overtook Trump by 9,027 votes in Pennsylvania in an astonishing surge that puts the Democrat on course for a comprehensive victory and clears a path for him to beat Trump's 306 Electoral College vote win in 2016.
If Pennsylvania were to be called for Biden, he'd already have enough Electoral College votes to be named president, and wouldn't even need to win in the states of Georgia, Arizona and Nevada
It would, of course, also render the Georgia recount meaningless.

'RECKLESS' TRUMP 'WRONG TO SAY ELECTION WAS RIGGED'
Republican US Senator Mitt Romney said it was wrong for Donald Trump — on the verge of losing the presidency to Joe Biden — to claim that the election was “rigged, corrupt and stolen” by Democratic rivals.
While the president is “within his rights” to request recounts and seek investigations into alleged voting irregularities, as his supporters claim occurred, “he is wrong to say that the election was rigged, corrupt and stolen,” said Romney, an occasional Trump critic.
He said: “Doing so damages the cause of freedom here and around the world, weakens the institutions that lie at the foundation of the Republic, and recklessly inflames destructive and dangerous passions.”
TRUMP WINS BACK SOME OF LEAD IN GAME CHANGING PENNSYLVANIA,
The latest batch of ballots from Pennsylvania show Joe Biden’s lead has decreased a little from 9,027 votes to 8,867 votes.
If he wins it is game over for Trump.
A press conference in Philadelphia is set to take place within the hour.
BORIS JOHNSON HAS 'EVERY CONFIDENCE IN THE CHECKS AND BALANCES OF US CONSTITUTION'
The Prime Minister has said he has “every confidence in the checks and balances of the US constitution” after Donald Trump made unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud.
The US president has been an ally of Johnson after backing him to become prime minister and supporting his position on Brexit.
Asked if he will miss working with Mr Trump if he loses the election, Johnson said: “Let's be clear, the prime minister of the United Kingdom is always going to work very closely with whoever is president of the United States, and that's going to be the case whatever the outcome of this election.
“I don't think at this stage you'd expect any foreign international leader to comment on the democratic processes of a friendly country.”
TRUMP SUPPORTERS PROTEST
Supporters for President Donald Trump demonstrated across the country today.
Hundreds gathered outside Detroit's TCF Center to protest the counting of votes for the 2020 general election.
Demonstrators also protested in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, holding signs bearing the words, “Stop the Steal”.
BATTLEGROUND STATES
BIDEN'S LEAD IN ARIZONA NARROWS
Biden's lead in Arizona has slightly narrowed.
Maricopa county, the most populous county in Arizona, has just released a new batch of ballots.
With the latest update, Joe Biden’s vote number in Maricopa stands at 972,570, while Donald Trump is at 912,115. That represents a slight decrease in Biden’s lead from a day earlier.
Trumps' campaign team has continued to insist he can still take the lead.
GEORGIA OFFICIALS DENY VOTER FRAUD
Contrary to Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated fraud claims, Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling said: “We're not seeing any widespread irregularities. We're not seeing anything widespread. Asked whether officials have seen anything that could throw the integrity of the election into question, Sterling said:
“We're investigating any credible accusation with any real evidence behind it.”
But he said: “When you have a narrow margin, little small things can make a difference.
“So everything’s going to have to be investigated to protect the integrity of the vote. Our office intends to do that.
“We’re literally looking at a margin of less than a large high school.”
GEORGIA RECOUNT BY 'END OF NOVEMBER'
Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling said “we should be able to know by the end of November” who’s won the vote in Georgia.
Sterling, the state’s Voting System Implementation Manager, said “we should be able to know by the end of November” who’s won the Presidency in Georgia.
But he couldn’t guarantee it dragging on even later until a hard deadline in mid-December.
RECOUNT IN GEORGIA CONFIRMED
A recount in the state of Georgia will go ahead, Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s secretary of state, has confirmed.
“There will be a recount in Georgia,” Raffensberger said in Atlanta.
As of now, Joe Biden leads Donald Trump by just 1,579 votes in Georgia, representing a virtual tie.
The recount will have huge implications for control of the US Senate.
TWITTER BLOCKS TRUMP 6 TIMES IN PAST 24 HOURS
Six tweets from the president were flagged by Twitter for being “misleading” in the past 24 hours.
Some of the tweets included the assertions: “I easily WIN the Presidency of the United States…” and “STOP THE FRAUD!”
Another tweet, issued on Thursday, said: “All of the recent Biden claimed States will be legally challenged by us for Voter Fraud and State Election Fraud. Plenty of proof – just check out the Media. WE WILL WIN! America First!”
TRUMP PREDICTED TO RUN AGAIN IN 2024 IF HE LOSES 2020
Former acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said that he “absolutely” expects President Trump to run again in 2024 if he loses his current reelection bid.
“I would absolutely expect the president to stay involved in politics and would absolutely put him on the shortlist of people who are likely to run in 2024,” Mulvaney said, according to The Irish Times.
Mulvaney described Trump as a “very high-energy 74-year-old” who “doesn’t like losing” and expects him to be “further engaged in 2024 or 2028 if he were to lose this next election.”
'TREMENDOUS CORRUPTION': TRUMP
A furious Trump alleged “tremendous corruption” in the vote, singling out mail-in ballots which he suggested were suspicious in being “overwhelmingly” for rival Joe Biden.
The President told reporters: “If you count the legal votes I easily win. If you count the illegal votes – they can try to steal the election from us.”
Trump vowed he would not allow unfounded “corruption to steal such an important election” or “silence” GOP voters after debunked voter fraud claims flooded social media.
“They did the mail in ballots where there's tremendous corruption and fraud going on,” he raged. “I told everybody that these things would happen.”
“I've already decisively won,” Trump insisted, hours after Biden said he had “no doubt” he had won the nail-biting battle for the Oval Office.
HOW MANY VOTES ARE LEFT IN PENNSYLVANIA?
The state has still left to count nearly 163,000 votes before calling out a winner.
As of early Friday morning, Biden leads with 49.4 percent of the vote and Trump has 49.3 percent.
In the electoral map, Biden is leading with 253 points.
Pennsylvania has 20 electoral votes up for grabs.
if he wins the state, it would put him over the 270 points necessary to win the presidency.
'WE'RE STILL COUNTING VOTES': KELLYANNE CONWAY
Former White House counsellor Kellyanne Conway criticised Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign saying a victory over President Trump was “imminent”.
“His campaign manager is out there saying, ‘Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States.’ That should not be said, because we are still counting votes,” the former top Trump official said in an interview on Fox News.
“And just as Joe Biden is telling people to be patient, I’ve been saying that since election night.
“If they spent three years investigating this president, impeaching this president, we can certainly wait for three hours, three days, three weeks or three months, however long it takes for every legal and on-time vote to be counted,” Conway added.
JOHN MCCAIN'S WIDOW COULD SEAL TRUMP'S DEFEAT
Worried Trump supporters fear John McCain's widow could cost him the election after he once infamously dubbed the Arizona senator “no war hero.”
The outspoken president's failure to praise late congressman John Lewis after he died may also come back to haunt him in Georgia – where he is now lagging behind Joe Biden.
Trump had seemed nailed on the win the key battleground state of Arizona which has only been won by a Democratic candidate once during the past 70 years.
However, with 90 per cent of the votes in Biden now reportedly holds a narrow lead over his Republican rival in The Copper State – which holds 11 crucial electoral votes.
Trump supporters have now turned on Senator McCain’s widow Cindy – who backed Biden in September – for, in the words of conservative Mark Levin, helping “cost us Arizona”.
She crossed party lines and endorsed the Democrat following heavily rebutted claims that President Trump had branded war heroes “losers”.
“There's only one candidate in this race who stands up for our values as a nation, and that is Joe Biden,” she wrote in a tweet.
'THIS ELECTION IS NOT OVER': TRUMP CAMPAIGN
President Donald Trump's campaign said Friday that “this election is not over” as his challenger Joe Biden edged closer to victory in the cliffhanger White House race.
The statement came after Biden overcame the president's lead in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania, putting him in position to win its 20 electoral votes.
A win in Pennsylvania would give Biden the presidency, as he currently holds at least 253 of the 270 electoral votes needed.
“This election is not over,” campaign general counsel Matt Morgan said in the statement, making further allegations of irregularities.
“The false projection of Joe Biden as the winner is based on results in four states that are far from final.”
Trump has made a raft of fraud allegations without evidence, including on Thursday night, and Twitter has slapped warning labels on a series of his tweets.
95% OF PENNSYLVANIA VOTES TABULATED
The vast majority of votes in the key state of Pennsylvania have been tabulated, with 95 per cent of votes being reported as having been counted.
The bulk of the remaining ballots in Pennsylvania will come from Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, a segment that has overwhelmingly come in for Biden to this point.
Pennsylvania carries 20 electoral votes, a number that would get Biden past the 270 needed to clinch the presidency.
TRUMP'S REELECTION HINGES ON PENNSYLVANIA
Biden just has just taken the lead in Pennsylvania, where 95 per cent of the vote count has been reported.
It is a significant step towards a final outcome in the election as Trump cannot find a route to 270 electoral votes without Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes.
Trump's chances of securing reelection hinges on developments in the states.
Biden currently has 253 electoral votes. If he wins Pennsylvania, he will be well over the 270 electoral vote threshold.
Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina are still yet to be projected.
Trump has leads in Alaska and North Carolina, while Biden has leads in Arizona, Georgia and Nevada.
BIDEN TAKES LEAD IN PENNSYLVANIA
Joe Biden has taken the lead in Pennsylvania over Trump.
In the latest update, Biden received 27,396 votes, while Trump had just 3,760 votes.
Of the 31,412 votes that were just tallied, 87 per cent of that vote came in for Biden.
He has now taken the lead in Pennsylvania by 5,587 votes.
Overall in the state, Biden has 3,295,304 votes, 49.4 per cent of the total — while Trump has 3,289,717 votes, or 49.3 per cent.
GEORGIA ON OUR MINDS
There are still about 14,000 ballots left to count as Americans are anxiously watching who will clinch the crucial 16 electoral votes from Georgia.
The president blamed a burst water piper for his trailing behind in the Red state.
During a press conference last night, Trump said: “In Georgia a pipe burst in a faraway location totally unrelated to the location of what was happening, and they stopped counting for four hours, and a lot of things happened.”
Brad Raffensperger, Georgia's Secretary of State, said there wouldn't be any further updates until later on Friday.
REPUBLICATIONS BLAST TRUMP FOR UNDERMINING ELECTORAL SYSTEM
The President has been blasted by senior Republicans accusing him of undermining the US electoral system with his “dangerous” and “incendiary” comments.
Former GOP Senator Rick Santorum told CNN that “counting ballots is not fraud,” however, and he described Trump's statements as “dangerous.”
“What the President just did was wrong and very dangerous,” Santorum said. “It’s time for other Republicans to stand up to him.”
Maryland's Republican Governor Larry Hogan also condemned the President's statements yesterday evening, tweeting that there was “no defense” for undermining the democratic election process.
“America is counting the votes, and we must respect the results as we always have before,” Hogan wrote. “No election or person is more important than our Democracy.”
TRUMP'S SON CALLS FOR 'TOTAL WAR'
Donald Trump Jr said the US “should go to total war” and “expose the fraud and cheating” in ballots as Joe Biden nears a win today.
Taking to Twitter to air his grievances over the count on Thursday, Don Jr raged: “The best thing for America’s future is for [Donald Trump] to go to total war over this election.”
He claimed that the purpose of this civil war would be “to expose all of the fraud, cheating, dead/no longer in state voters, that has been going on for far too long.”
“It’s time to clean up this mess & stop looking like a banana republic!” Don Jr concluded his inflammatory rant this evening.
His incendiary statement was rapidly flagged by Twitter.
The social media giant warned that “some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about an election or other civic process” and linked to their Civic Integrity Policy.
'NO ONE IS GOING TO TAKE DEMOCRACY AWAY FROM US': BIDEN
Biden issued a blistering statement on Twitter after Trump's address, writing: “No one is going to take our democracy away from us. Not now, not ever.
“America has come too far, fought too many battles, and endured too much to let that happen.”
ELECTION IS 'FRAUDULENT' TRUMP FALSELY CLAIMS
A deflated Donald Trump accused Democrats of trying to "steal" the election last night – and claimed he would have “easily won if you count the legal votes.”
In an extraordinary speech from the White House, the President lashed out at what he called a “fraudulent” election steered by the Democrats in cahoots with “big media, big money and big tech”.
Bitter Trump alleged “tremendous corruption” in the vote, singling out mail-in ballots which he suggested were suspicious in being “overwhelmingly” for rival Joe Biden.
The President told reporters: “If you count the legal votes I easily win. If you count the illegal votes – they can try to steal the election from us.”
