British Virgin Islands premier held in cocaine smuggling sting - The Times

The premier of the British Virgin Islands was arrested by undercover agents at a Miami airport yesterday and accused of conspiring to smuggle cocaine into the US.

Andrew Alturo Fahie, 51, was seized by drug enforcement agency officers (DEA) posing as traffickers with a Mexican cartel as he boarded a plane at Miami’s Opa-locka Executive Airport.

Fahie was accompanied by Oleanvine Maynard, the head of the ports authority in the Caribbean archipelago, who was also arrested, as was a third man reported to be Maynard’s son.

Fahie and Maynard, who had visited Miami for a cruise ship convention, were arrested as they allegedly oversaw the loading of $700,000 in cash, given to them by the agents, which was to be transported back to the British
