Ghislaine Maxwell arrest – Pleas to not let her kill herself in prison like Jeffrey Epstein - The Sun

CALLS are growing to keep Ghislaine Maxwell on prison suicide watch so she does not try to kill herself in jail like her ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein.

The British socialite, 58, was arrested yesterday by the FBI and charged with grooming and abusing the paedophile financier's teenage victims.

Maxwell is set to appear in court next week in Manhattan where she faces charges of ensnaring the girls between 1994 through 1997.

She could face a potential life sentence, even if she pleads guilty, according to Mark Allenbaugh, the co-founder of Sentencing Stats, LLC.

Ever since Epstein was arrested for sex trafficking last year, she had kept below the radar.

Then Epstein apparently killed himself in August last year while awaiting trial, which at the time effectively ended the case which would have involved his rich and powerful pals.

But now victims, who have waited decades for justice, hope they now have the opportunity to hold Maxwell to account for her alleged role in grooming and abusing dozens of girls and women.

Yet many fear justice could be thwarted if she kills herself in her cell like her co-accused and former lover.

Actor Steven Pasquale, was one them, tweeting: “Ghislaine Maxwell has been arrested.

"Now let’s keep her a** alive because she knows EVERYTHING."

Corey Feldman, who claims he was abused as a child actor in Hollywood, tweeted: "Better do a sworn video testimonial on her fast before she shows up dead too!

"Let's do our best to keep her alive eh?!"

Meanwhile Carol Wick, a campaigner against violence against women, echoed this sentiment, saying: "It's about time.  Now keep her alive long enough to testify."

After her arrest in Bradford, New Hampshire yesterday, Maxwell appeared in a Manhattan court shortly after 3.30 pm via video conference along with her attorney.

She is charged with four counts related to procuring and transporting minors for illegal sex acts and two counts of perjury.

But she has yet to be granted bail, which is opposed by the US government who fear she is "an extreme flight risk" given her wealth.

District Judge Alison J. Nathan Nathan told Maxwell she would be temporarily detained and "transported to the charging district" – the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) – where hearings would begin accordingly.

This means she is likely to be held in the same remand prison Epstein apparently killed himself in.

At a press briefing, acting Manhattan U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said: "Maxwell was among Epstein’s closest associates and helped him exploit girls who were as young as 14 years old.

"She played a critical role in helping Epstein to identify, befriend and groom minor victims for abuse.

"In some cases, Maxwell participated in the abuse herself."

Previous to her arrest, Maxwell strongly denied any wrongdoing and until today the accusations hadn't resulted in criminal charges.

The indictment accuses Maxwell of luring the girls beginning in 1994 through 1997 by asking them about their lives, schools and families and taking them shopping or to movies.

'VICTIMS WERE GROOMED BY MAXWELL'

It is alleged Maxwell was well aware of Epstein lusted after girls and sexually abused them.

His alleged abuse included touching and placing sex toys in his victims' genitals and having them touch his privates while he masturbated.

Maxwell also encouraged the young girls to massage Epstein, and in some cases, the victims were partially or fully nude during these sessions, according to the indictment.

Strauss said the abuse took place at Epstein's luxury homes in London, New York and Palm Beach, Florida.

CHARGES AGAINST GHISLAINE MAXWELL

Ghislaine Maxwell is charged with the following:

  • Count one: Conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts
  • Count two: Enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts
  • Count three: Conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity
  • Count four: Transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity
  • Count five and six: Perjury - the offence of willfully telling an untruth or making a misrepresentation under oath.

The circumstances of Maxwell's ex-partner in prison are now under investigation by the Justice Department.

Central to the concerns over Epstein's death is that two prison guards on duty the night Epstein died are accused of falsifying records.

It is alleged they lied about making required checks on the financier.

The convicted sex fiend, who faced dying in prison because of the fresh claims made against him, had been left alone in his cell for eight hours before he was found dead.

Those guards have pleaded not guilty.

Following Epstein’s death autopsy photos later revealed he had a fracture to his neck.

But, after weighing the evidence, New York's medical examiner officially ruled his death a suicide.

CONSPIRACY THEORIES OVER EPSTEIN'S PRISON DEATH

But the suicide ruling hasn't stopped theories the sex fiend was murdered.

Notably, given that he was New York City’s former chief medical examiner, Dr Michael Baden disputed the verdict of his successor Barbara Sampson who had concluded Epstein did not kill himself and was most likely strangled.

But Baden insisted on Fox News: "I think that the evidence points toward homicide rather than suicide."

He was hired by Epstein’s family — who were appalled about allegation but suspicious about his sudden death — to observe his autopsy

Epstein's unexpected death at the time appeared to end the possibility of a trial that would have involved his famous and wealthy friends.

It also sparked widespread anger that the vile sex fiend had cheated justice — and that no-one would be held accountable for his dehumanising defilement of teenage girls, groomed to obey his every command.

But now, after the FBI closed in on her New Hampshire bolthole, Maxwell is compelled to face claims about her role in her ex-boyfriend's repugnant sex abuse regime.

Before the lid on Epstein's sordid sex trafficking scandal blew open and nauseated the world, Ghislaine was known to the world as the youngest child of disgraced media tycoon and British publisher Robert Maxwell.

He died in 1991 after mysteriously falling off the superyacht, Lady Ghislaine — named by her fraudster dad in her honour.

Following this she moved to New York. She began dating Epstein a year later.

The pair were said to have remained close for decades after their breakup.
