Africa crocodile attack: British teenager Amelie Osborn-Smith saved by friends - The Times

A British teenager attacked by a crocodile during a rafting trip close to the Victoria Falls was saved when guides and friends punched the creature.

Amelie Osborn-Smith, 18, suffered severe leg injuries when the 10ft crocodile dragged her into a “death roll” on Tuesday lunchtime.

The former pupil of St Swithun’s School, Winchester, was on a gap year trip in Zambia when she was attacked. It is believed she had been dangling her leg over the edge of the boat.

Her parents, Brent Osborn-Smith, 60, and Veronika, 52, a German baroness, from Hampshire, are making preparations for a repatriation flight for medical treatment.

Osborn-Smith, an osteopath and former army major, said Amelie had a severe leg injury but doctors had “managed to salvage her foot”.
