Thousands of Afghans entitled to come to Britain face being left behind unless the August 31 deadline for their evacuation is extended, The Times has been told.
Britain is pushing the US to delay its date for leaving Afghanistan amid concerns that as many as 6,000 British and Afghan citizens have yet to get out.
President Biden said last night that he believed the evacuation could still be concluded by the end of the month despite having previously suggested that it could be extended. “I think we can get it done by then but we’re going to make that judgment as we go,” he told a White House press conference.
