Britain is having to “manage the consequences” of the “emphatic” decision by the US to withdraw from Afghanistan, Boris Johnson has said.
Speaking after a meeting of the government’s Cobra emergency committee, the prime minister said that the situation in Afghanistan remains “precarious”.
However, he said that the situation at Kabul airport is “stabilising” and the UK will work “as fast as we can” to get people out of Afghanistan.
Asked about the Taliban’s claims that it has changed, Johnson said it is important to take it at “face value” but added that it will ultimately be judged by its actions.
