Heathrow and Gatwick: All countries set to be removed completely from England's travel red list - My London

In great news for London's travel industry, the last seven countries on the red list are set to be removed.

The last countries on the red list are Colombia, Peru, Panama, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Venezuela and Ecuador.

This will mean passengers arriving from those countries will soon no longer have to quarantine in a hotel at their cost for 10 full days.

Red list countries are those the government said should not be visited "except in the most extreme of circumstances".

If all countries were removed, it would effectively mean every destination in the world could become fair game for Britons in need of a holiday.

Up until now, coming back from a red list country meant quarantining for 10 days at a cost of £2,285 per person.

The change has not officially been announced by the Department for Transport, but there have been reports that an announcement is expected later.

The prime minister's official spokesman has confirmed there were no plans to scrap the red list policy completely and the Government would keep the list as an option, at least until January.

Countries could be moved to the red list in future.

The wider overhaul of UK travel rules came into force earlier this month, with the amber and green lists being scrapped in favour of just two lists - the red list and 'rest of the world'.

Travel from red list countries is banned unless people have residence or nationality rights in the UK, in which case they can come but must stay in a quarantine hotel.
